RAMIN ARDESTANI
Professional Underwater Photographer

ABOUT ME :

I was born not nine months after my creation; on July 11, 1971, the day that began the story I am telling here today.

I have no memories of my childhood that I can tell except for passion, passionate mischief, and innocent mischief. But at the age of sixteen, I made my first freefall jump; something no one had done before me at that age, and then joining the Iranian national freefall team… what a thrill! And a year later, another spark changed my life: an image from Marine Photo magazine got me hooked on underwater photography, and I followed it to Tokyo, where I had the honor of being a student of the greats in this field. Among them, the great “Tate Ishi” was a teacher whose footprints have remained on my life’s path.

If it weren’t for my father’s opposition, perhaps today I would be flying in the skies instead of in the depths of the sea. But now that more than half a century has passed since my unique life, I know what a beautiful path fate has chosen for me.

I have known a group of sea fish, touched a few airplanes, learned to swim a little, and experienced a brief flight.

I have seen the spring of Shiraz, experienced the splendor of the cherry blossom festival, and am one of the few people who have seen amazing creatures in the depths of the sea; creatures that are simply not possible for humans to see.

I have spent more than thirty-five years of my life painting the secrets of the underwater world of the ever-beautiful Persian Gulf. As a child who strives to leave a good name for his ancestors, I have also strived to leave an eternal name for this beautiful Gulf to the world.

I, Ramin, a child of the Persian Gulf, a benefactor of beautiful Iran…
